Senior AccountantAt Petfolk, we're reshaping veterinary care by blending high-quality medicine with a welcoming, connected experience for pets, their families, and the professionals who care for them.We are looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our growing team. In this role, you'll manage and own key areas of month-end close, support audits and tax filings, and help build scalable processes and reporting. You'll work closely with leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and maintain strong internal controls.
This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Lead in preparing and posting month-end journal entries related to revenue, payroll, lease accounting (ASC 842), fixed assets, Inventory Adjustments, etcPerform and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, including accounts such as 401(k), FSA/benefits clearing, sales tax, and other accounts receivablePrepare monthly rent payments and support rent reconciliations as neededReview and audit employee expense reports through Expensify to ensure policy compliance and accuracyCoordinate sales tax processes, including submitting monthly data to external tax consultants and confirming timely and accurate filingsSupport external audits and tax filings by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor requestsCreate, update, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), accounting policies, and support documentation to ensure consistency, accuracy, and audit readinessPartner with Operations to assist with billing issues, disputes, and revenue related inquiriesReview and validate vendor records established by Accounts Payable, including W-9 documentation and banking details, to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirementsSupport the development and enhancement of internal controls and accounting processes in preparation for future audit and compliance requirements on path towards IPO.Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reporting packages and ensure compliance with GAAP and internal reporting standardsIdentify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to enhance efficiency and accuracy in the close processCompetencies:Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environmentProactive mindset with a willingness to roll up your sleevesExcellent attention to detail and problem-solving skillsEducation and Experience:Bachelor's degree in Accounting4+ years of accounting experience (startup or high-growth environment is a plus)Experience managing month-end close and reconciliations independentlyStrong Excel skills and experience with accounting/ERP systemsStrong understanding of GAAP; exposure to ASC 842 preferredCPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferredWork Environment:Hybrid role with 4 days in our NYC officePhysical Requirements:Ability to perform work at a computer for extended periods of timeCompensation: $100,000-$120,000PetFolk is an equal opportunity employer.
