Senior Accountant

Position Overview

A large, established organization in Jersey City is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its growing finance and accounting team. This role will have significant responsibility for the balance sheet across 17 business lines and is ideal for a strong Senior Accountant with experience working within a large, complex corporate environment.

The position offers excellent visibility and a clear path for advancement to Manager, potentially within one year.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage key balance sheet accounting activities across multiple business lines.
• Perform monthly and quarterly close activities.
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations.
• Conduct balance sheet flux and variance analysis.
• Research and resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Support financial reporting and other general accounting activities.
• Work cross-functionally within a large finance and accounting organization.
• Assist with process improvements and accounting initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 5+ years of accounting experience.
• Current experience at the Senior Accountant level.
• Strong experience with balance sheet accounting, reconciliations, close, and flux analysis.
• Experience working within a large and/or complex organization.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience working with an ERP system.
• Insurance industry experience is preferred but not required.
• Public/private accounting or insurance experience is especially attractive for candidates at the top end of the compensation range.
