Our client is an organization in the Greater Milwaukee area looking for a Senior Accountant. Our client is looking for an experienced accounting professional with a strong general accounting foundation and hands-on cost accounting experience. This position will play an important role in month-end close, financial reporting, account analysis, and cost-related activities while partnering with others throughout the organization to ensure accurate financial information and provide insight into business performance.
The salary range for this position is $80k–100k.
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close activities.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain accurate general ledger activity and research accounting discrepancies as they arise.
- Perform cost accounting activities and analyze costs associated with inventory, production, and operations.
- Review product costs, cost variances, and other manufacturing-related financial information.
- Analyze inventory activity and assist with maintaining accurate inventory valuation.
- Partner with operational teams to understand cost drivers and investigate significant variances.
- Prepare financial analysis and reporting to support accounting and business decisions.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities, including cost and operational assumptions.
- Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts and provide explanations for significant changes.
- Support financial statement preparation and management reporting.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests and prepare supporting documentation.
- Maintain compliance with established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Collaborate with accounting, finance, and operational teams to resolve issues and improve financial processes.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting procedures, reporting, and overall efficiency.
- Participate in special projects and additional accounting initiatives as business needs evolve.
The Senior Accountant will possess the following:
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Hands-on cost accounting experience required.
- Strong general accounting knowledge, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Experience with inventory accounting, product costing, and cost variance analysis strongly preferred.
- Manufacturing or other inventory-based industry experience preferred.
- Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and general ledger accounting.
- Experience analyzing financial and operational information and investigating discrepancies.
- Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, or financial analysis is a plus.
- Strong Excel skills and experience working within ERP or accounting systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with accounting, finance, and operational partners.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet recurring deadlines.
- Collaborative approach with a willingness to take ownership and contribute to process improvements.
