We're partnering with a mission-driven organization seeking a Senior Accountant (CPA) to own governmental fund accounting, grant compliance, and timely financial reporting. This is a high-impact role working closely with finance leadership, accounting teammates, and program leaders to ensure strong internal controls, clean closes, and audit readiness, while supporting budgets, cash management, and continuous process improvement.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Accounting & ReportingLead monthly and year-end close processes and prepare accurate financial statements (entity-wide and by fund/program)Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysesReconcile bank, investment, and clearing accounts; monitor cash flow and prepare forecastsPrepare budget-to-actual reports and assist with budget development, amendments, and transfersGrants & Compliance (Uniform Guidance)Administer and monitor federal, state, and other grant programsManage grant drawdowns, reimbursements, allowable cost determinations, time and effort allocations, and matching requirementsPrepare and maintain the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA)Support Single Audit readiness under Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200)Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for funding agenciesEnsure compliance with procurement, contracting, and record retention requirementsPayroll, A/P, A/R, Fixed AssetsOversee payroll accounting, reconciliations, and labor allocationsCoordinate with HR while maintaining appropriate segregation of dutiesReview Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes, vendor compliance, and payment cyclesManage fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, capitalization policies, and inventory controlsOversee sales/use tax, property tax, and other required filings as applicableInternal Controls, Audit & Year-EndEvaluate, document, and improve internal control proceduresMaintain and update financial policies and proceduresServe as primary point of contact for external auditorsPrepare PBC schedules, workpapers, accruals, and year-end documentationAddress audit findings and implement corrective action plansSupport implementation of applicable GASB standardsSystems, Tools & ReportingAdminister or support MIP Fund Accounting or comparable governmental accounting systemsSupport Paylocity or comparable payroll platformsDevelop standard and ad hoc reports and dashboards for leadership and program teamsPartner with IT on system controls, backups, and financial data securityLeadership & CollaborationWork collaboratively with the Lead Accountant and accounting staffProvide professional guidance, training, and mentorship as assignedPartner with Program Directors and Project Managers on financial planning and compliancePresent financial information to Tribal leadership and Tribal Council as requestedRequired QualificationsBachelor's in accounting/finance (master's preferred)Active, unencumbered CPA (any U.S.

jurisdiction); ability to obtain CA reciprocity within 12 months if needed5+ years progressive accounting experience including governmental fund accounting + grants managementStrong knowledge of GAAP/GASB (government) and Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200)Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups) and strong Microsoft 365 proficiencyExperience with accounting systems (e.g., MIP Fund Accounting) and payroll systems (e.g., Paylocity)Strong close discipline, internal controls mindset, and executive-level communicationPreferredExperience supporting tribal governments or similar public-sector/government environmentsExperience leading/mentoring staff in a multi-fund settingAdditional RequirementsMust pass pre-employment drug test and background check; bondable for handling funds (credit check may be required per policy/law)Valid driver's license and insurable under employer's vehicle insuranceOccasional evenings/weekends and travel for trainings/auditsCommitment to confidentiality, ethics, records retention, and IT securityBenefitsSalary: $95,000 – $105,000 DOE/DOQ401(k)Dental insuranceHealth insurancePaid time offVision insuranceWork Location: In person
