Security Officer Substitute
To provide security services on a substitute basis as needed by the school principals and district administration.
Qualifications-Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations for school safety in New Jersey
- Ability to prepare reports using appropriate grammar
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work with school age students
- Ability to diffuse heated situations with students
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to follow orders
- Ability to be proactive and not reactive
- Ability to maintain self-control during intense situations
- Ability to relate effectively with all levels of staff
- Must possess a valid NJ driver's license
- Must be able to pass the Criminal History Review
- Must be able to submit the Sexual Misconduct/Child Abuse Disclosure Form
Qualifications-Desired:
- Police or Law Enforcement experience
- Certified by a New Jersey Police Training Commission
- Own a semi-automatic handgun in caliber ranges 9mm to.45 caliber
- Have a Level III holster
- Possession of a RPO-Retired Police Officer's Right to Carry and meet all training requirements
- Willing to wear a Level IIIA bullet-proof vest or carrier
- Experience working in a school setting
- Experience carrying a firearm around children
- Knowledge of school operations
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Secures the front desk of the schools' visitor access, student drop off and pick up
- Assists in the morning and afternoon with student bus drop off, parent drop off locations, and parking lots
- Patrols and monitors hallways, stairwells, outside facilities, and other public and unsupervised places for the school to ensure safety and well-being of students and staff
- Ensures a smooth traffic flow of students through the hallways, assisting students with on-time arrival to class and to assigned locations
- Assists with the supervision in the lunch periods
- Removes disruptive students from classes when needed
- Locates and escorts students to the Assistant Principal's office when requested
- Assists the professional staff, police, and emergency personnel in the handling of emergencies or disruptive situations
- Ensures students are in compliance with school rules and regulations
- Provides escorts for visitors to various locations throughout the building
- Provides security duties as requested to after school and weekend events
Working Conditions:
On an as needed basis $20.85/hr (Unarmed) - $30.75/hr (Armed) Indoor and outdoor work environments Office environment Classroom environment School cafeteria
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, when necessary Ability to restrain a student when necessary Ability to walk up/down stairs Ability to walk hallways during a required time Ability to work outside in cold weather Ability to maintain physical/emotional composure during intense situations
