Under the supervision of the Security Coordinator, the Library Security Officer helps maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for patrons, staff, and visitors. The officer patrols the library and surrounding property, monitors compliance with library policies, responds to incidents and emergencies, de-escalates conflicts, and prepares incident reports.
- Patrol the library and surrounding property.
- Monitor activity and support compliance with library policies.
- Respond professionally to incidents, emergencies, and patron concerns.
- Use sound judgment and de-escalation techniques during difficult situations.
- Report safety hazards, suspicious activity, and security concerns to the Security Coordinator and Manager on Duty.
- Prepare accurate and timely incident reports.
- Provide security support during daily operations, programs, and special events.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all library and departmental procedures.
- Perform other security-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Security, public safety, or related experience preferred.
- Strong communication, observation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to remain calm, firm, and professional in stressful situations.
- Ability to make sound decisions and prepare clear written reports.
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff and serve people from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
