Security Officer

Under the supervision of the Security Coordinator, the Library Security Officer helps maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for patrons, staff, and visitors. The officer patrols the library and surrounding property, monitors compliance with library policies, responds to incidents and emergencies, de-escalates conflicts, and prepares incident reports.

• Patrol the library and surrounding property.
• Monitor activity and support compliance with library policies.
• Respond professionally to incidents, emergencies, and patron concerns.
• Use sound judgment and de-escalation techniques during difficult situations.
• Report safety hazards, suspicious activity, and security concerns to the Security Coordinator and Manager on Duty.
• Prepare accurate and timely incident reports.
• Provide security support during daily operations, programs, and special events.
• Maintain confidentiality and follow all library and departmental procedures.
• Perform other security-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Security, public safety, or related experience preferred.
• Strong communication, observation, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to remain calm, firm, and professional in stressful situations.
• Ability to make sound decisions and prepare clear written reports.
• Ability to work cooperatively with staff and serve people from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
