Security Guard (Part-time)

Pleasantville Public Schools, Pleasantville, New Jersey, is seeking a Security Guard for part-time employment. The role involves providing security and protection for pupils, staff, and school property. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, valid New Jersey driver's license, and experience in law enforcement, school security, and/or public safety. The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of security measures, fire prevention, and crowd control, and possess strong problem-solving skills and communication abilities. Proficiency in using technology such as computers, two-way radio, video monitors, and electronic surveillance equipment is essential. The candidate must also provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status and pass a criminal record history check and a state-required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test. The position reports to the Director of School Safety and/or designee.

Performance responsibilities include security monitoring, patrols, and response to security problems. The Security Guard will patrol district buildings and grounds to protect against illegal entry, acts of violence, vandalism, illegal drug activity, arson, and theft. Regular inspections of windows, doors, and other points of entry will be conducted to ensure security. The role involves checking identification of pupils, staff, and visitors entering the school, detaining unauthorized persons, and calling for police assistance in accordance with the district's security plan/crisis management plan. Participation in the district's/school's emergency and crisis management plan is required. The Security Guard will also record-keeping and customary reporting, documenting all observations and conditions, and reporting unusual occurrences or property damage to superiors and documenting rule violations.

Physical demands include lifting items, sitting, standing, and walking for required periods of time, speaking and hearing, using close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception, communicating effectively in English, using proper grammar and vocabulary, reaching with hands and arms, and using hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, computers, and/or controls. The role involves exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses, occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions, exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities, exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and/or operation of equipment, and functioning in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but can be noisy at times.

Terms of employment are part-time on an as-needed basis with a salary of $17.00 per hour. Benefits include earned hourly sick days. Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with NJ State law and the provisions of the board's policy on evaluations.
