Security Guard - School

During the school year the security guard will help ensure a safe environment for students, teachers, and administrators.

This is a full-time 10 month position.

Works Closely with: Other Security Guards & Custodians

Major responsibilities include:

  Log-in students when they arrive

• n

  Ensure that only authorized individuals are allowed on campus

  n

• n

  Enforce guest/visitor policies

  n
n
• n

  Provide support to teachers and administrators during confrontational situations

  n
n
• n

  Monitor campus access points as assigned

  n
n
• n

  Greet campus guests, ascertain reason for visit and implement visitor protocols as appropriate

  n
n
• n

  Monitor school parking lots and direct traffic throughout day and during dismissal

  n
n
• n

  Use phone system to call teachers and staff when visitors arrive

  n
n
• n

  Perform assigned duties during emergency drills

  n
n
• n

  Escort parents and students to classes as requested

  n
n
• n

  Share responsibility for outdoor recess monitoring

  n
n
• n

  Log any security incidents in the security log book. Write summary report for any significant security incidents that occur within two hours of the event.

• n

  Monitor camera system and use computer/iPad to log-in visitors and students.

  n
n
• n

  Close and lock gates

  n
n
• n

  Perform occasional custodial services as asked. These may include but are not limited to:

  Adjusting room temperatures

  n
n
• n

  Setting up or taking down tables

  n
n
• n

  Mopping and/or sweeping floors

  n
n
• n

  Emptying trash

  n
n
• n

  Help direct traffic for bus pick-up

  n
n

Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required for special events. Some overtime may be available.

Requirements

Required Skills/Training:

Current SORA license

DOE Criminal Background Check

Experience providing security in a school setting

Ability to work outside for 1-2 hours at a time
