Carilion Clinic, in partnership with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM), is seeking a Section Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Roanoke, Virginia. This leadership role involves directing clinical, educational, and research activities for a growing team of six surgeons and over 12 advanced practice providers. - The new Carilion Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) will open in July 2025 in the Crystal Spring Tower.
- The new facility includes 7 dedicated cardiovascular operating rooms (3 Cardiothoracic, 2 Hybrid, and 2 General Vascular), 76 inpatient beds, 9 EP and Cath Labs, MRI, CT, and additional testing.
- Carilion CVI is rated as high performing in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm repair, Lung Cancer Surgery, Heart Bypass Surgery, TAVR, Heart Attack and Stroke.
- The Cardiothoracic Surgery group has provided open heart surgery to the region for over 40 years.
- Carilion Clinic operates 7 hospitals, 264 outpatient clinics, 850 physicians representing more than 85 specialties, along with over 350 residents and fellows in 30 accredited ACGME programs.
Responsibilities
- Direct the clinical, educational, and research activities for the Section of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
- Lead a dynamic group practice providing comprehensive, multi-disciplinary care for patients.
- Perform procedures including CABG, valve surgery, VAD, and comprehensive thoracic surgery (VATS, robotic, and open).
- Partner with Carilion's Aortic and Endovascular Center and Structural Heart teams.
- Actively involve in the education of medical students, residents from multiple CC-VTCSOM training programs, allied health science students, and Virginia Tech undergraduate and graduate students.
- Provide clinical training for general surgery residents, plastic surgery residents, integrated cardiothoracic surgery residents (University of Virginia), Advanced GI/MIS/Bariatric fellows, and surgical critical care fellows.
Compensation
- Min Starting Salary: $1,006,481
- Max Starting Salary: $1,517,748
- Additional annual compensation from bonus programs is available
