Chief Purpose of this position

The Department of InternalMedicine, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition isseeking a Gastroenterology Section Chief to oversee the division atVirginia Commonwealth University. The Section Chief for GI will beresponsible for the leadership, management, and administration ofthe GI and Nutrition Division across the domains of Endoscopyservices, Outpatient and Inpatient clinical activities, teaching,service, and research.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Clinical - Provide clinical services in the gastroenterologyclinics at VCUHS, to include both clinics on the MCVH campus and ingastroenterology outreach locations; participate in the inpatientmanagement of patients with GI conditions, participate in attendingon the Digestive Health Service at VCUHS; perform diagnosticendoscopic procedures.
• Teaching - Provide teaching to medical students, residents, andfellows in the management of patients with GI conditions.
• Leadership - Divisional Programs including IBD, GI Fellowshiptraining, Pancreas/Biliary, and Women’s Health; set up Sites ofExcellence for Endoscopy, Esophagus and Nutrition; oversight of allinpatient and outpatient clinical activities; oversee growth ofcollaborative clinical activities between VCUHS and Hunter HolmesMcGuire Hospital; initiating clinical research activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Board Certified in Gastroenterology
• Must be facile with Diagnostic Endoscopy
• Current license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth ofVirginia
• Previous experience in division or department leadershipposition in academic institution
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
