Job Description

As a member of the Technology Operations team, reporting to the Agile Coach, the Contractor Scrum Master will play a critical role in facilitating and optimizing agile processes across cross-functional Agile software project teams. This position will guide software development teams in the efficient, high-quality delivery of work, drive continuous improvement, and champion agile methodologies to ensure successful project execution and value delivery. By fostering a collaborative and adaptable team environment, the Contractor Scrum Master will enhance alignment with organizational goals, support the team in overcoming challenges, and promote agile best practices to ensure project transparency, accountability, and innovation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Organize and lead agile events, including daily scrum, sprint reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning, and backlog refinement sessions.

· Proactively identify and resolve any impediments to a scrum team's progress, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines.

· Promote and embed agile standards, tools, and best practices, coaching the team on enterprise standards related to IT, security, quality, and architecture to minimize operational risks.

· Utilize team feedback and metrics (e.g., quality, cadence) to identify improvement areas, working collaboratively with the team to achieve operational excellence.

· Facilitate communication between team members and leaders across the organization to maintain transparency around delivery progress, challenges, and risks.

· Work closely with Product Owners to maintain an organized, prioritized backlog that aligns with project goals and delivery capabilities.

· Experiment with new practices and frameworks to enhance team outcomes, advocating for continuous learning and improvement.

· Represent the team at larger planning and coordination sessions (e.g., Scrum of Scrums), fostering collaboration across teams.

· Support teams in using agile planning and development tools like Jira and Confluence for streamlined project management.

· Provides subject matter expertise, guidance, and coaching to agile team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and self-management.

· Actively engage in learning opportunities to strengthen agile knowledge and capabilities, including participation in communities of practice or conferences.

· Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.

· In partnership with leadership and People Operations, ensuring equitable practices and experiences to strengthen inclusion acumen, and promote a culture of inclusivity and belonging that embraces the contributions of all team members.

· Actively participate in cross-organizational working groups and activities to support the development and maintenance of Common App culture.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Required:

· Displays a deep understanding of technical concepts and industry trends.

· Exhibits leadership qualities by guiding and mentoring junior team members.

· Makes well-informed decisions based on experience and data analysis.

· Deep understanding of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban), with practical knowledge of agile frameworks and techniques.

· Proficiency in facilitating agile events and coaching teams toward collaborative and effective interactions.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly within an agile context.

· Excellent verbal, written, and presentation abilities, with a knack for simplifying complex information for diverse audiences.

· Experience with agile planning and development tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).

· Ability to communicate technical information effectively to non-technical stakeholders and build strong, collaborative relationships.

· Skilled in resolving conflicts within teams and with stakeholders, promoting productive discussions and mitigating tension.

Preferred:

· Familiarity with techniques like Liberating Structures, Lean Coffee, or retrospective formats that enhance team engagement and retrospectives.

· Proven ability to work closely with Product, Design, and QA teams to align on goals and objectives across functions.

· While not required to code, a background in software development, systems architecture, or

· DevOps practices can enable the Scrum Master to better understand technical challenges and constraints.

· Knowledge of SAFe or Other Scaled Agile Frameworks

Preferred:

· SAFe Agilist (SA) or Leading SAFe certification

· Advanced Scrum Master
