Scraper OperatorPosition Summary: Under the immediate direction of supervisor, the scraper operator safely operates heavy equipment to move, haul, or scrape/grade the earth. Your job duties can also include scraping and spreading the earth, carrying large amounts of dirt to another location, oiling and calibrating machinery, and smoothing roads. Other plant operation duties may be assigned. Essential Responsibilities:Must be able to or willing to learn to operate all other mobile equipment, including: bulldozers, backhoes, and tractors for moving large amounts of materialAttach different types of blades or attachments depending on jobOperate equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with training and manufacturer's instructionPerform pre-shift safety inspection on the vehicle systems, equipment and accessoriesPerform preventative maintenance and service mobile equipmentReport needed repairs to supervisionEnsure cargo is properly loaded according to safety requirementsResponsible for good housekeeping of equipmentAssist in plant maintenance and repairsAssist with operation of other equipment as neededAdhere to MSHA and plant safety rules, policies, procedures, and regulationsPerform duties with minimum supervisionEducation And Experience:High school diploma, GED or equivalent experienceWorking knowledge of heavy construction equipment3-5 years' experience operating heavy mobile equipment preferredExperience with a variety of hand toolsKnowledge, Skills And Abilities:Must be able to work 12 hour shifts, possible weekends, overtime, and holidays as neededMust be able to read equipment operating manualMust be able to complete pre-shift inspection reportMust be able to communicate over CB radio or with hand signals and warning sounds, with coworkers regarding movement of vehicles and mobile equipmentPossess basic mathematical aptitude to complete daily reportsMust be able to wear all required safety equipmentMust be able to perform duties in a safe mannerMust be able to read and interpret gaugesProven ability to work in a team environmentMust be able to work irregular shifts and work days/nights and weekendsMust be able to wear all required safety equipmentPhysical Requirements:Must have good hand/eye coordination and be able to operate hand/foot controlsPossess good vision to perceive depth at close range and distances up to 150 feetMust be able to climb on and off equipment to operate and serviceMust be able to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel in limited space in cab of vehicleMust be able to sit and operate equipment for long periods up to 10+ hours per dayMust be able to bend, stoop, climb and reach around mobile equipmentCapable of lifting up to 50 lb.Must work outside in all weather conditions consistent with extreme ambient temperatures: heat, cold, wetness, dryness, dust, and noisy conditionsMust be able to work at various heightsWorking Conditions:Larger equipment is typically air conditioned. There will be times when outside assignments may require periods of work in all weather conditions-heat, cold, wet or dry and dusty.
