Job Description
AbbVie’sGastrointestinal(GI)/Immunology Discovery Research group is looking for a highly motivated andexperienced invivo and in vitropharmacologistto play an integral role inadvancing therapeuticsto treat inflammatory GI disorders.This position offers an exciting opportunity tounderstand thepharmacodynamic effectsof experimental medicineswith GI relevant in vitro and in vivo assays.
The ideal candidate would work within the highly matrixed and collaborativeDiscovery Immunologyteam toguidetest articlescreening and assay development as well asbuild biology packages forearly stageprograms.Experimental focus will be ondeveloping andleveragingin vivo and in vitro systems tohelpunderstand the impact of test articlesinmucosal immunity.The candidate is expected to design, execute,interpretand present innovative research to advance programstowards the clinic.We are seeking a hands-on experimentalist who isproficientwithin vivo and in vitrocell biology research andhasdemonstratedscientificleadership withinternal and externalstake holders/experts.The expectation is that the candidate would dedicatethe majority oftheir time toward wet lab experimentation, dataanalysisand presentation.In addition, we are seeking a candidatewith excellent written and oral communication skills.The candidate will have the opportunity to present their results at team and internal/external science meetings.Priortechnicalexperience inIBDmouse models, humanized mice,biologicsmolecule screening, and handling of human tissuearerequired.
Major Responsibilities:
Highly autonomous and productive in performing laboratory research and method development, requiring only minimal direction from supervisor
Execute ondiscovery screening funnels fornovel test articles
Design, execute and analyze in vivopharmacologystudies in colitis or other GI mouse models
Prepareand execute experiments withhuman blood or intestinal tissue
Formulate conclusions and design follow-on experiments based on multidisciplinary data
Primary author of regulatory documents.
Understand and adhere to corporate standardsregardingcode of conduct, safety,appropriate handlingof materials, controlled drug and radioactive compounds, and animal care
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically,7years ofworkexperience,Master’s Degreeor equivalent education and typically5years of work experience
Experiencewithin vitro and in vivocell killingendpoints preferred
Highly proficient in primary cell culture, including isolation of human and rodent cells and activation with inflammatory stimulationis preferred
Experience with ex vivo intestinal tissue assays
Possess thorough theoretical and practical understanding ofownscientific discipline, especially within gastrointestinal physiology and inflammation.
Highly proficientand efficientwithin vivo techniques such as mouse restraint, PO, ROand IP dosing routes, and rodent necropsy.Experience with some colitis modelsor humanize mouse modelsisrequired.
Technical capabilities including RT-qPCR,Westernblot,multi-parameterflowcytometry
Demonstrated ability to learn,understandand master new experimental techniques.
Demonstrated scientific writing skills and strong verbal communication skillsthrough publication and conference presentations.
