Role Overview

The School Psychologist is responsible for implementing local, state, and federal policies and regulations related to the education and training of disabled students. Responsibilities include adhering to professional ethics, maintaining confidentiality, respecting family privacy, and protecting the legislative rights of disabled children and youth. The psychologist must be thorough in completing assignments, employ appropriate diagnostic strategies and management procedures, develop behavior management plans, collaborate with district counselors and teachers, and perform additional duties assigned by the Administrator of Special Services.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include:

  • Master's degree in psychology from an accredited college or university;
  • Valid Texas license as a licensed specialist in school psychology granted by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists;
  • Experience providing psychological services in an educational setting.

Alternatively, candidates may have:

  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • Valid Texas license as a Licensed School Psychologist, LSP Trainee, or LSP Intern in accordance with Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists rules. (LSP Intern must be currently enrolled in a school psychology program and must have completed all relevant coursework prior to internship.)
