School Nurse (RN)The School Nurse serves in a pivotal role to provide expertise and oversight for the provision of school health services and promotion of health education. Using clinical knowledge and judgment, the school nurse provides health care to students and staff; performs health screenings and coordinates referrals to the medical home or private healthcare provider. The school nurse serves as a liaison between school personnel, family, community and healthcare providers to advocate for health care and a healthy school environment.Responsibilities include:Attends to students who are injured or who become ill while at school, administers first-aid and other emergency nursing treatment, and arranges for medical attention where the circumstances indicateAssists teachers and health authorities when special community health programs are carried outAssists with in-service training activities by giving instructions to students and school personnel in such subjects as nutrition, rest and relaxation, communicable diseases, home health care, and interprets such subjects to parentsAssists in selecting first-aid supplies to be kept at the school and secures and carries out medically approved written instructions for care of sick or injured studentsMaintains accurate and clear health records of students in accordance with applicable regulations and proceduresConfers with students and parents regarding health problems when requestedExcludes and readmits students in accordance with existing school health regulation policiesPerform other as assigned by supervisor or designeePhysical Demands:The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
