Position Description
nDirects actions of children and traffic at street intersections and school entrances to ensure safe crossings; monitors and enforces school zone speed limits.
nThis position is a non-supervisory classification and receives limited supervision, consulting with Field Supervisor on unusual situations.
nCandidates must be able to think and react independently to various situations.
nWork Hours: Three hours per school day; early morning and afternoon.
nSpecific hours are determined when assigned to school
nOn occasion, may be required to work special assignments.
nIncumbent works 10 months out of the year.

Patrols street crossings and school entrances during hours when children are going to and coming from school

Directs the actions of children and traffic

Escorts children across the street

Records license numbers of vehicles disregarding the school zone speed limit

Places and removes caution signs and cones

Cautions drivers of speeding vehicles by use of whistle and/or hand signals

The work requires some physical exertion such as walking, climbing, bending, stooping, stretching, or similar activities. The work requires standing for long periods of time.

nMinimum Qualifications
nMust be of good moral character and reputation.
nCandidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
