WHIN Music Community Charter School is the first school of its kind! Built on the principles of El Sistema, WHIN is a place where children learn, grow, and make music together. WHIN is currently seeking high performing school counselors who are ready to help grow a unique school community where compassion, kindness, and curiosity drive each and every day.

Specifically, school counselors at WHIN are responsible for providing regular one-on-one counseling and/or group counseling to students and families. They support WHIN's social-emotional programming, provide in-crisis support for students as needed, conduct regular assessments of current and emerging student and family needs, develop and maintain partnerships with external agencies, refer individuals and families to external resources and services, coordinate internal and external family and student support activities/workshops, lead all staff professional development sessions as needed, provide recommendations to all staff on approaches to best support struggling students, contribute to the child study team's assessments of student needs, inspire students and fellow staff to perform at his or her highest potential, maintain accurate, confidential, and current student records, develop and maintain strong and professional relationships with WHIN families, conduct oneself with the highest level of professional and ethical standards, and ensure WHIN complies with all state and federal regulations in regards to counseling and mandated reporting.

Qualifications for the school counselor position are a masters of school counseling, licensed masters of social work (LMSW), licensed clinical social work (LCSW), or similar degree, New York state school counselor certification, urban elementary school experience, demonstrated success with students and families, an unwavering belief that all students can achieve at a high level, the ability to thrive in a startup environment, the ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic, and exciting school, a sense of humor and kindness towards your colleagues. Advanced proficiency in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred: bilingual (Spanish), music performance, responsive classroom, love & logic student management, and restorative justice models, trauma-informed practices.
