Elementary School Counselor
The Hannibal Central School District is seeking a compassionate, student-centered, and collaborative Elementary School Counselor to join our team. Our school is committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the whole child by promoting positive mental health, social-emotional learning, and student success. The school counselor will work closely with students, families, teachers, administrators, and community partners to help meet the diverse needs of our learners.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and small-group counseling to students experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, or academic challenges.
- Design and deliver classroom lessons focused on social-emotional learning, self-regulation, conflict resolution, empathy, and responsible decision-making.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to identify and address student needs.
- Support students during transitions, including entry into UPK, movement between grade levels, and preparation for middle school.
- Consult with families and provide resources to support student well-being and success.
- Participate in problem-solving teams, student support meetings, and intervention planning.
- Coordinate referrals to outside agencies and community services, when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with district policies and confidentiality requirements.
- Respond to students in crisis and provide support during emergencies, as needed.
- Assist in developing and implementing school-wide initiatives that promote a positive school climate and culture.
- Advocate for equitable opportunities and support for all students.
