Salary: Based on NC State Salary Schedule for Licensed School Counselors

Position Overview
Currituck County Schools is seeking a dedicated and student-focused Elementary School Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and career development of students in grades K-5. The school counselor will design and implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and the ASCA National Model . The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with students, staff, families, and community partners to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student success and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
  • Implement a comprehensive school counseling program addressing academic, career, and social-emotional development.
  • Provide individual and small group counseling to support student needs.
  • Deliver classroom guidance lessons aligned with developmental standards.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to identify and support students experiencing academic or behavioral challenges.
  • Attend MTSS/Intervention team meetings and assist with student support plans.
  • Provide crisis response and intervention when necessary.
  • Maintain appropriate student records and confidentiality in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student needs and available support.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies and community resources when appropriate.
  • Participate in school committees, professional development, and school improvement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in School Counseling or related field
  • North Carolina School Counselor License (or eligibility for licensure
  • Knowledge of child development and counseling strategies for elementary-aged students
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in an elementary school setting
  • Familiarity with Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
  • Experience implementing the ASCA National Model
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations
