School Counselor
Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, school counselors promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students.
Minimum Master's degree in Counselor Education program
Must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina educator's license in school counseling
Develops and maintains a plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program based on the NC Comprehensive School Counseling Standard Course of Study and current individual school data.
Assists all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills goals and plans.
Effectively and appropriately assesses and address the needs, characteristics and interactions of students, families, LEA personnel, and community.
Provides information to staff related to the comprehensive school counseling program.
Advocates for appropriate services for students and their families.
Communicates the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program to education stakeholders (i.e., administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community/business leaders.)
Collects and analyzes data to guide program direction and emphasis.
Monitors student academic performance, behavior and attendance and assists with appropriate interventions.
Must be able to stand, sit, or walk for prolonged periods of time.
Ability to bend, stoop, carry, push, or pull.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds routinely and 50 pounds occasionally.
Must be able to visually, auditorily, and physically monitor student performance and conduct.
Must possess sufficient auditory and visual capabilities to communicate effectively and professionally with staff, students, and parents in a variety of settings.
