Position Summary
A Behavior Technician in Pittsburgh Public Schools supports students with behavioral, emotional, and developmental needs , often under the supervision of a behavior specialist, school psychologist, or special education team. The role focuses on helping students succeed academically and socially by implementing behavior plans and providing direct support.
Qualifications
Required:
-
Minimum of 2 years of direct experience support individuals with significant behavioral needs OR certification as an RBT/BT or equivalent behavioral credential.

Prior school based experience strongly preferred
-
Direct experience in therapeutic, behavioral health, or special education settings supporting high-intensity behavioral needs.

Demonstrated experience managing significant behavioral escalation, including aggression, elopement, property destruction, and emotional dysregulation
-
Experience supporting individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, emotional/behavioral disabilities, and/or limited verbal or nonverbal communication.

Experience implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), Positive Behavior Support Plans, and related IEP behavioral supports
Preferred:

Experience collecting and documenting behavioral data (ABC date, frequency, duration, interval, recording, and anecdotal notes)

Demonstrated ability to consistently implement de-escalation strategies and follow structured behavior protocols

BT Candidates must demonstrate an advanced behavioral skill set beyond PCA-level support.

Candidates without direct high-intensity behavioral experience should not be submitted as BTs

Reliable attendance and punctuality aligned with the PPS/Approved Private Schools calendar and assigned schedule.

Willingness to accept short-notice assignment changes, including school, student, and schedule adjustments.

Professional conduct, confidentiality, and effective communication.

Adherence to school-based communication protocols (no direct communication with families or sharing personal contact information).

Ability to complete accurate daily documentation (service logs and other required records).
