nJOB DESCRIPTION: School-based counselors provide and deliver school-based services that improve student outcomes. School-based counselors provide individual and group counseling sessions to youth in grades k-12. School-based counselors work within the school system to assist in supporting youth’s social, emotional, behavioral and academic well-being.
nMAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

Schedule and Conduct regular mental and behavioral counseling sessions with youth in grades k-12

Establish positive and trusting relationships with youth and school personnel
n n - n
Collaborate with school personnel to determine how best to meet youth’s needs
n n - n
Implement various treatments and protocols to provide guidance and appropriately address youth needs
n n - n
Ability to accurately diagnose based on youth’s symptoms
n n - n
Continually assess progression/regression of youth and provide the proper ongoing treatments
n n - n
Educate and involve family members or other loved ones in the treatment process when necessary
n n - n
Collaborate with outside agencies, as necessary, to ensure continuity of care
n n - n
Record and maintain adequate documentation (intake forms, biopsychosocial assessment, treatment plans, progress notes, mental health inventories, etc.)
n n - n
Maintain neat and organized files and workspace
n n - n
When required, refer youth to outside sources or agencies that can better address their specific needs
n n - n
Maintain the strictest confidentiality of each youth
n n - n
Maintain all required licenses and certifications
n n - n
Provide mental health related trainings and attend community meetings as needed
n n - n
Participate in weekly supervision and staff meetings
n n - n
Assist with outreach efforts

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
nEducation: Master’s Degree
nOTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of a Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field. Licensed or licensed-eligible counselor or social worker preferred.

Meet all necessary state licensure requirements for NJ
n n - n
Minimum of one-year therapy experience in an outpatient or in-home setting.

Must have experience with utilizing short-term therapy modalities.

Knowledgeable of the DSM-5

Must obtain personal liability insurance upon hiring
