Position Summary
nThe School Aide (Fluent in American Sign Language) provides instructional, communication, and behavioral support to Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students in a school setting. The aide works closely with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to promote student success, inclusion, communication access, and independence. The ideal candidate is proficient in American Sign Language (ASL), demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, and is committed to supporting diverse learners.
nEssential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide direct classroom support to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.

Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers using American Sign Language (ASL).
n n - n
Assist students with academic assignments, classroom activities, and instructional materials.
n n - n
Reinforce lessons and teacher-directed instruction under the supervision of certified staff.
n n - n
Support student participation in classroom discussions, school events, and extracurricular activities.
n n - n
Assist with behavior management strategies and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) as directed.
n n - n
Monitor student progress and communicate observations to teachers and support staff.
n n - n
Help prepare classroom materials, visual aids, and learning resources.
n n - n
Supervise students during lunch, recess, field trips, and other school activities as assigned.

Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
n n - n
Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and information in accordance with school policies and applicable laws.

Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
n n - n
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
n n - n
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.

Experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or related setting preferred.

Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
n n - n
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, families, and support staff.
n n - n
Knowledge of Deaf culture and best practices for supporting DHH students preferred.
n n - n
Ability to pass required background checks and meet district employment requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) experience or similar ASL-related training.

Experience supporting students with special needs.
n n - n
Coursework in education, special education, Deaf Studies, or a related field.
n n - n
CPR and First Aid certification.
