Job OpportunityPositions Location: St. Johns, MIJob DescriptionGeneral Purpose of Job: The exercise physiologist emphasizes exercise and preventive care to help patients recover from cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases with a goal of improving the overall health of the patient. Exercise physiologists develop fitness and exercise programs that help injured or sick patients recover. They are responsible for analyzing a patient's medical history to develop a risk assessment during exercise and to determine the best possible exercise and fitness regimen for the patient.

The role performs fitness and stress testing with medical equipment and is responsible for analyzing the resulting patient data. Patient data may include: blood pressure, oxygen usage, heart rhythm, and other key patient health indicators. This data is then used to develop exercise programs to improve patients' health.Essential Duties:This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.Responsible for all duties involved in both exercise and pharmacologic cardiac testingHolter monitor set up and scanningEstablish peripheral Intravenous (IV) accessPerform EKG's as neededResponsible for administering intravenous medications for pharmacological stress testingFlexibility to fulfill on call needs as required, may require weekend rotationResponsible for all duties in the cardiac rehabilitation environmentResponsible for application of BLS/ACLS as neededResponsible for all duties in the wellness/fitness environment as a trainer in exercise wellnessResponsible for all duties in the pulmonary rehabilitation environmentJob RequirementsGeneral Requirements:BLS (American Heart Association)ACLS (American Heart Association) within 3 months of hireACSM Certification preferredCertified Fitness Trainer preferredWork Experience:Training and experience in all modalities of cardiac stress testing, EKG interpretation, cardiac rehabilitation, and ambulatory monitoring.Education:Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise PhysiologySpecialized Knowledge and Skills:Excellent interpersonal, organizational and decision-making skillsAbility to work well independently and in a team environmentDemonstrates ability to use the tools associated with an electronic medical record or program specific software required to perform the essential duties of the job.Training and experience in all modalities of cardiac stress testing, EKG interpretation, cardiac rehabilitation, and ambulatory monitoring preferredAmerican College of Sports Medicine Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription preferredAmerican Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Guidelines preferredUniversity of Michigan Health-Sparrow is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
