Scaffold Builder: Leadman

Primary Purpose:

A scaffold builder is responsible for building up and breaking down temporary scaffold structures.

Typical Duties

Scaffold builders are responsible for assembling and dismantling scaffolding structures that allow workers to access specific portions of a building to perform needed work. They build, position, and dismantle wooden structures such as concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports, and temporary frame shelters, according to sketches, blueprints, or company standards. They are expected to work at high elevations with confidence.

Requirements

• Work at heights with no fear.
• Examine, select, and gather materials and tools.
• Examine blueprints and specifications to determine dimensions of structure.
• Inspect base surface for obstructions.
• Saw boards and plywood panels to required sizes.
• Use carpentry hand tools such as hammers, levels, squares, screw drivers, adjustable wrenches, hand and power saws, drill motors and pry bars.
• Assemble scaffold containing handrails, mid rails, braces and planks, toe boards, screening, locking pins and wheels to job specifications.
• Load, transport and unload material.
• Determine type of scaffold needed and how to properly instruct on how to install.
• Oversee transport of tubular scaffold or other structural material and erect the scaffold as instructed by the scaffold builder.
• Hoist scaffolding materials upward in order to erect temporary structure.
• Properly secure and level locking sections of scaffolding material.
• Properly secure scaffold to the permanent structure for added stability.
• Supervise the dismantling of scaffolding when it has been properly communicated to do so.
• Inspect and properly stow scaffolding material after dismantling.
• Perform final inspection of completed scaffolding.
• Other duties as assigned.
