Saw Operator

Machine OperatorThe role involves locating and staging materials, setting up and operating band saw machines to cut metal stock pieces to specified dimensions, performing light maintenance, and completing required paperwork. The operator is responsible for ensuring the safe and productive operation of the saws, verifying dimensions of finished workpieces, and safeguarding equipment from loss or damage.Responsibilities:Set up and operate band saw machines to cut metal stock pieces to specified dimensions.Adjust controls to set speed/feed rate and tension of the blade.Install saw blade and set blade tension and cutting speed for specified operations.Set saw blade angle to obtain desired angle cuts using a wrench.Position and secure stock against stops or feeding devices.Start machine and observe operation, replacing defective cutting blades or wheels using hand tools.Mount pieces in holding devices and operate saws to cut along scribed or measured dimensions.Verify dimensions of finished workpieces using measuring tools such as calipers and measuring tape.Operate overhead crane.Clean operated equipment and perform light day-to-day maintenance.Notify Maintenance Technician of any needed maintenance or repairs, and inform managers about potential safety concerns.Essential Skills:Experience in production and saw operation.Proficiency in using tape measures and machine operation.Attention to detail and ability to read blueprints.Experience with bandsaw, fabrication, grinding.Basic shop math skills.Ability to read, write, and speak English.Metal fabrication experience.Additional Skills & Qualifications:Experience in deburring and blueprint reading.Knowledge of metal fabrication processes.Why Work Here?Join a leading global company that processes specialty steel for various industries including agriculture, automotive, aerospace, medical devices, and energy. Employees must adhere to safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment.Job Type & Location:This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carol Stream, IL.Pay and Benefits:The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
