Immediate Opening for a Company Construction Safety Manager

OVERVIEW:
This positionoversees jobsite safety in the field during the construction of commercial, light industrial andhigh-techmanufacturing construction projects as well as developing, implementing and maintaining Gordon Prill’s overall safety program. The Safety Manager must have comprehensive knowledge of safety operations including planning company safety policies, training and enforcing safety regulations and codes. This person will interact with other in-house construction personnel, subcontractors, owner representatives including EH&S and city, county and state regulatory agencies.
TYPE OF POSITION:
This position is for a full-time Gordon Prill employee with full benefits.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Duties include both field and administrative
- Ability to manage safety initiatives at multiple jobsites while balancing company and field training and compliance requirements
- Develop and facilitate safety orientation for all new Gordon Prill construction employees and provide ongoing training
- Assist in developing company safety policies and updating and maintaining safety manuals and bulletins to educate construction personnel (Including current Covid-19 requirements)
- Become familiar with risk hazards and mitigation for each construction project and develop and coordinate job hazard analysis plans
- Participate in safety pre-construction meetings
- Conduct company safety meetings and training, regular intervals and as needed
- Develop materials for safety meetings, prepare agendas and record minutes
- Perform daily site safety inspections to ensure Gordon Prill employee and subcontractor compliance of all safety and health procedures
- Inspect all safety equipment to ensure working order and that all persons on the job-site are utilizing the prescribed safety equipment for the task and in a correct manner
- Document all site safety information and incidents and provide weekly written reports
- Provide any documentation required by regulatory agencies regarding injuries
- Investigate injuries/incidents and near misses and provide root cause analysis and follow-up with safety meeting lessons learned
- Serve as a company liaison between owner, subcontractors and regulatory agencies
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of five years of full-time safety experience on commercial / industrial projects
- Must be Certified with:
- OSHA 500/501
- CHST
- Preferred but not required: Safety Professional with BCSP (Board of Certified Safety Professionals) Certification (CSP, ASP, CIH, QHST)
- Ability / willingness to obtain CSP Certification within two years of hire date
- Extensive working knowledge of OSHA regulations, NFPA standards and other applicable codes including knowledge of building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and Title 24 compliance
- Extensive knowledge of CalOSHA Title 8 regulations
- Aerial life safety training, confined space (comp. person), fall protection (comp. person), rigging (comp person), scaffold (comp. person)
- Asbestos and lead training (HAZWOPER training a plus)
- Qualified SWPPP Practitioner a plus
- Experience in dealing with regulatory agencies, safety and EH&S professionals
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills with ability to use MS Office Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Procore, Bluebeam and ISNetworld
- Must have ability to write technical company safety plans, policies and maintain company IIPP
- Valid CA driver’s license and clear background / security check and clean driving record
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED (Bachelor’s Degree in related field a plus)
- Accurate, clear and concise business writing and communication skills
- Physical requirements to navigate a construction jobsite include the ability to balance, stoop, climb, sit, kneel, crouch or crawl. Will involve climbing ladders, stairs, accessing roofs, working in noisy, dusty or hot /cold environments and in close proximity to operating mechanical and electrical building equipment and construction machinery and vehicles.
- Ability to work well in team environment yet also be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to contribute in the development of technical proposals for projects and also participate in client project interviews / presentations
