ROLE OVERVIEW
The Safety Manager builds and maintains a world-class safety culture across the entire 500MW data center project site - one of the most complex and populous construction environments in the region. This role develops the Site-Specific Safety Plan, leads all safety training and compliance programs, and ensures the project achieves zero-incident performance.
At peak construction, over 1,500 workers from dozens of subcontractors will be on site simultaneously, performing high-hazard work including structural steel erection, high-voltage electrical work, crane operations, confined space entry, and trenching. The Safety Manager must be a credible, respected field leader who earns the trust of craft workers while holding every subcontractor accountable to safety standards.
KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop the Site-Specific Safety Plan (SSSP), emergency action plan, and site safety rules at mobilization
- Conduct all new worker site orientations for GC and subcontractor employees
- Lead daily morning safety huddles and weekly subcontractor safety meetings
- Perform daily site safety inspections across all active work areas; document findings in Procore
- Investigate all incidents, near-misses, first aid events, and property damage; produce root cause analysis reports
- Manage OSHA 300 log, recordkeeping, and all required postings throughout the project
- Enforce high-hazard programs including fall protection, trenching and excavation, LOTO, crane and rigging, and hot work
- Coordinate emergency response procedures including fire, medical, weather events, and utility strikes
- Conduct subcontractor JHA/AHA reviews and verify task-level compliance daily
- Monitor and enforce subcontractor safety programs, safety pre-qualification, and incident reporting requirements
- Manage the project drug and alcohol testing program in coordination with HR
- Interface with OSHA, local fire authority, and regulatory agencies on compliance matters
- Lead periodic safety stand-downs, recognition programs, and lessons-learned communications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years of construction safety management on large commercial or industrial projects
- OSHA 30 required; CHST or CSP preferred
- Experience managing safety on projects with 300+ simultaneous workers
- Strong knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 construction safety standards
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Data center, industrial, or large campus project safety experience
- Experience with Procore safety module for inspections, incidents, and corrective actions
- First Aid/CPR/AED instructor certification
