Martin Marietta is currently looking for a Safety Lead at our Ames Mine. This position is responsible for communicating safety standards of excellence in the daily work environment and ensuring regular compliance with policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Participate in safety programs and trainings, promoting Martin Marietta’s Guardian Angel culture
- Establish and maintain effective communication within all areas of operation
- Conduct regular inspections for safety, housekeeping and mechanical issues
- Implement and apply all safety rules, regulations and procedures of the mine
- Review safety and maintenance reports daily
- Train workers in operation of equipment and safety procedures
- Participate and lead new hire orientation for all plant and mine hourly employees.
- Participate in mine safety audits, track results, provide local leadership with continuous improvement options and follow up on all action items.
- Assist with location incident investigations.
- Assist with safety center administration on observations and near misses for all assigned locations.
- Participate in MSHA visits at assigned locations.
- Assist with the coordination of annual SOMA Industrial Hygiene assessments and training for all locations.
- Assist in identification, analysis, solution and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of hazard resolution.
- Ensures compliance with safety policies and procedures.
- Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position and will require 40+ hours per week.
Travel
Travel will be frequent and primarily within the Division and assigned District.
Preferred Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Heavy equipment operations or military experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of MSHA regulations
- Effective verbal communication
- Knowledge of heavy mobile equipment and tools including their design, use, and maintenance
Physical Abilities
- Ability to work in an outdoor environment year-round
- General physical activities including climbing stairs and ladders, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, reach with hands and arms, and handling materials.
