Safety Director

Build Your Career at Evergreen Roadworks!The Safety Director plans and implements the company's safety program by partnering with all areas of the business to ensure a safe, productive, healthy, and accident-free work environment across all Evergreen locations and jobsites in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and other states. This position will manage a team of safety professionals that assist in carrying out the company's safety program. The comp for this role starts at $130,000 per year, and can change based on experience.Essential FunctionsDrives workplace safetyCollaborates with Evergreen leaders to develop safety solutionsDevelops strategies, policies and programs to instill a safe cultureCollaborates with Heritage Construction & Materials and related companies on required safety initiativesDevelops metrics for measuring the effectiveness of safety initiativesConducts / coordinates noise and dust monitoringMaintains hearing conservation programOversees radiation safety programServes on necessary safety committees and serves on other Heritage safety teams/committees as appropriatePromotes safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters and specific training programLeads the safety departmentMentors safety staff and ensures their professional developmentSupports employee involvement, assumes leadership role in developing positive work environmentMonitors and maintains compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, IDOT, and other regulatory agenciesCoordinates all safety/regulatory compliance measures throughout all office and construction sites in Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan and ensures all requirements are implementedDevelops current and comprehensive knowledge of all applicable state, federal and local health and safety regulations/laws/requirements affecting the business including environmental, health, and safetyCreates and files all required reportsConducts job site internal auditsIdentifies and evaluates risk hazards and develops proper measures of controlDevelops and coordinates health and safety training for orientation, refreshers, and annual trainingIdentifies safety training needs and develops training curriculumEnsures required training is conducted; develops an annual schedulePeriodically reviews and updates safety training materialsOversees incident responsePartners with onsite/plant managers to conduct investigations and analysis of safety incidentsIdentifies root cause of incidents and implements corrective actionCompletes required reporting for OSHA, HCM, THG and other entitiesActs as a liaison with claims processors, medical personnel, insurance claims adjusters, as neededMaintains highest levels of confidentialityStays current on safety programs and developments by maintaining contact with others in the field (e.g., OSHA, professional association and educational groups, and professional development efforts)Ensures health and safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in safe manner at all timesChampions the company’s culture of safety and supports a culture of safety-first behaviors and decisionsAdditional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to continuously growing in alignment with the Company’s core values, competencies, and skills.Education QualificationsRequired Bachelor's Degree in Safety Management, Construction Management or related discipline, or equivalent work experience; RequiredExperience Qualifications5+ years work experience in corporate safety department/safety management requiredExperience in development of safety processes and training of individuals on process requiredExperience in heavy highway or industrial setting preferredSkills and AbilitiesSafety ExpertStrong computer / technological skills; Proficiency in Microsoft Suite programsStrong communication skillsAccountabilityAttention to detailAbility to work a flexible schedule as business needs requireAbility to work in extreme weather conditions on heavy highway construction sitesAbility to travelParticipate in safety briefings, job briefings, and other meetings - pass on information from team members, management or customerMust be able to work with a team, take direction, follow work rules, and take on additional job responsibilities as needed or assignedPerform all work in compliance with company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirementsMust possess and exhibit excellent communication skills and the ability to work independentlyLicenses and CertificationsValid Drivers License requiredOHSA Certification 500 and 501 preferredWorking Conditions/Physical DemandsAbility to work in both office and heavy highway construction jobsites including exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, and windy conditions caused by weather, moving traffic, noise, fumes, mechanical and heavy equipmentIndoor conditions that include standard office equipment such as computers, photocopier, phone, filing cabinets, cubiclesAbility to work flexible schedule as business needs requireSits at desk/computer for long periods of timeSits in motor vehicle and drives regularlyTravel to job sites and satellite offices is required; primarily day travel, but some overnight may be necessaryAbout Evergreen RoadworksEvergreen Roadworks provides a wide-ranging suite of paving solutions and proprietary applications designed to extend roadway life and enable infrastructure investments to go further.
