Senior Systems EngineerCapstone IT is seeking a senior systems engineer with expertise in IBM i (AS/400) environments to support, optimize, and maintain critical enterprise infrastructure. This role will serve as a senior technical resource responsible for ensuring platform stability, performance, security, and scalability while supporting ongoing business operations.This is a contract-to-hire opportunity designed to accelerate onboarding. Candidates must be able to relocate to the client location in Springfield, Missouri within 12 months when converted to a full-time employee.
Relocation assistance is available.Key ResponsibilitiesAdminister, support, and optimize IBM i (AS/400) infrastructure and IBM Power Systems environmentsAnalyze business and technical requirements and implement infrastructure solutions that improve performance, reliability, and securityMonitor system health, performance, capacity, and availability while proactively identifying and resolving issuesTroubleshoot complex infrastructure problems and serve as a senior escalation point for technical supportSupport system upgrades, maintenance, disaster recovery, and business continuity initiativesCoordinate with vendors and third-party support providers to resolve platform-related issuesCreate and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and architecture diagramsParticipate in on-call support and mentor junior team members as neededRequired QualificationsStrong hands-on experience administering IBM i (AS/400) environmentsExperience supporting IBM Power Systems infrastructureProven expertise in troubleshooting, performance tuning, upgrades, and system maintenanceExperience with change management, disaster recovery, and operational support processesStrong communication skills and ability to work independently in complex environmentsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experiencePreferred QualificationsExperience with Mimix high availability and disaster recovery solutionsExperience with IBM PowerHA, backup/recovery, and business continuity planningKnowledge of IBM i security administration and auditingExposure to AWS, Azure, or GCP environmentsScripting, automation, or infrastructure modernization experienceWhy Join?Long-term contract-to-hire opportunity with relocation supportHigh-impact role supporting mission-critical enterprise infrastructureOpportunity to work with a stable environment while contributing to future technology initiatives
