Nursing Resources - Float PoolUnit: Nursing Resources - Float PoolWhat units are included in the float pool: 3P, 4P, 5P, Joint Connection, psych, sometimes will float to PCU if travel nurse has experience or will care for boarded patients in the ERRatios: 1 nurse to 6 patients for M/S; 1 to 4 in PCURequired Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, CPI requiredCommon diagnoses/Types of patients: Same as Med-SurgExperience: Med-Surg, Telemetry, Critical Drips required; Chemo, Peritoneal Dialysis, Trach care preferred. Tele readingAre RNs required to titrate drips? YesCommon titratable &/or set rate drips: NTG (Chest pain indication only), Amiodarone, Lasix, Heparin, Dopamine (low dose renal perfusion only)Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Float Pool are used in Charge on Med-Surg units and typically have a patient assignment/House Supervisor on duty 24/7. Charge experience preferred.

If they are interested in being charge, they will train. Try to give modified assignment when charge, if staffing allows.Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios: Yes: 7A to 7P (1 to 10) 7P to 7A (1 to 15)RT Equipment: Cpap, Bipap, High Flow O2, Long term ventilators (only via Trach - RT maintains vent), IV pumps, sequential compression devices, pulse oximetry, specialty bedsIs there tele on this unit?: 3P, 4P - Monitor Tech 24/7, 5P remotely monitored and read by 3P.Shifts & Scheduling: 6:45 am - 7:15 pm or 6:45 pm to 7:15 am. Director/ floor manager will do the scheduling. Block scheduling allowed as long as needs are met for the unit.

Takes requests into consideration.Weekend Requirement: Every otherHoliday Requirement: Rotation with core staff. If they have been there long enough she will see what the traveler worked the previous year and schedule off of that.Is there a call or standby requirement?: NoHow are units assigned?: Report to supervisors office before reporting to unit. At times the ADP timekeeping system isn't the most up to date.Scrub Color/Dress Code: RN/LPN - Navy; C.N.As/Monitor Techs - Dark Grey/Pewter, scrubs must be solid color, no embroidery and/or patterns on scrubs. WVU Medicine or solid color fleece zip-ups may be worn in grey, black, navy or royal blue.

Solid undershirts may be worn in white, grey, or black in matching color to the scrub top. Closed toed shoes only. No crocs.Unit/Department specific orientation: First day general hospital orientation; Full day of Nursing - Orientation for RNs/LPNs; Computer training (1/2 day for C.N.As, full day for nurses); Two, 12 hour orientation shifts with a preceptor; Will receive an abbreviated Initial Skills Checklist due 90 days from start date.
