Job Summary
Registered professional nurse who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated shift. Prescribes nursing care based on the nursing process, collaborates with physicians and other health care team members, and coordinates delivery of patient care to patients of any age. Incorporates teaching and discharge planning, delegates tasks as appropriate, and represents CNA.

Unit Bed Count: 24. Staffing: 6 RN, 2 CNA, 1 Resource, 1 UA, 1 NL. Medication system: Pyxis. EMR: Cerner. IV teams available 06:30‑20:30. Pharmacy 24/7. Phlebotomy: centralized lab. Transport team 06:30‑20:30. Unit secretary 06:30‑19:00/18:45‑07:00. Hospitalist 24/7. Scrubs: associates may wear any color.
Job Responsibilities / Essential Functions
- Utilize nursing process to assess patients, design and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate effectiveness.
- Modify plans as needed, considering age, cultural, and spiritual needs.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to formulate patient care plans.
- Apply knowledge of pharmacology when preparing and administering medications and IV therapy.
- Provide patient/family education throughout all phases of care.
- Respond to emergency situations following established protocols.
- Oversee patient care delivery and correct errors to ensure safety.
- Report observations, reactions, and problems to appropriate persons timely.
- Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for problem solving and clinical decision‑making.
- Ensure continuity of care by processing physician’s orders and treatment plan components.
- Set priorities, respond to workload changes, and act as patient's advocate.
- Delegate appropriately to CNAs and student nurses.
- Practice nursing in accordance with California Nurse Practice Act.
- Maintain awareness of professional responsibilities, legal scope, and communication skills.
- Document assessments, interventions, and care provided.
- Perform technical aspects of patient care according to policies, adapting techniques for age and unique needs.
- Prepare and administer medications and IVs with age‑specific considerations.
- Perform emergency procedures such as CPR and assess patient response.
- Use equipment safely (electrical beds, pumps, mechanical lifts, monitors, etc.).
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in state of practice.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Acute care facility experience preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS or HS‑BLS or RQI‑BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS or HS‑ACLS or RQI‑ACLS) certification required and demonstrated competency in dysrhythmia during orientation.
- ACLS required.
Organizational Requirements
All associates must receive required vaccinations as a condition of employment and annually thereafter, except where medical or religious exemptions apply.
