Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, this position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating and providing high quality, individualized patient care using the components of the nursing process.

  • Perform duties that address the physical, psycho‑social, and spiritual needs of critically ill patients, including timely initial assessments and ongoing reassessments, integrating cultural, ethnic, and developmental considerations for patients from adolescence to geriatric age.
  • Apply hospital and regulatory standards of care to develop, implement, and evaluate discipline‑specific aspects of the trans‑disciplinary care plan, collaborating with patients and families to tailor interventions based on assessment findings.
  • Continuously evaluate patient outcomes, prioritize care services, modify the care plan as needed, and accurately document all activities in the medical record.
  • Utilize a case‑management approach to plan, guide, coordinate, and integrate patient care across the continuum, communicating effectively with physicians, staff, and other disciplines.
  • Assure patient safety by assessing the physical environment, equipment, and patient behavior.
  • Participate in patient/family teaching, reviewing educational materials, and coaching nurses and hospital staff on educational interventions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide care during emergency situations and follow established emergency procedures and practices.
  • Communicate and adhere to the organizational chain of command when notifying about patient care or service issues.
  • Maintain knowledge and identify therapeutic patient‑care issues, determining measures and interventions to promote, maintain, and restore health, including end‑of‑life care.
  • Ensure patient rights are respected, providing privacy and dignity in patient care.
  • Determine the presence and type of advance directives, involving patients/families in decision‑making, and report suspected abuse or neglect as required.
  • Demonstrate age‑specific care knowledge, including safety measures, normal physiological values, and risk assessments for skin integrity, behavior, and motor skills.
  • Identify patient/family educational needs, initiate individualized teaching tailored to functional/developmental age, and document teaching effectiveness.
  • Apply team‑leader/charge‑nurse skills and practice universal precautions.
  • Show flexibility in the workplace with varying patient assignments and staffing levels, completing work on time.

Minimum Education

  • Graduate of a RN Training Program

Minimum Work Experience And Qualifications

  • Minimum one‑year recent experience in an acute care setting preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to work in a union environment

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration Or Designation

  • Current California RN license
  • AHA BLS card
  • AHA ACLS card
  • EKG certification
  • NIHSS Certification
  • Critical Care Course preferred
  • Current Los Angeles County Fire Card required (within 30 days of hire)
  • Assault Response Competency (ARC) required (within 30 days of hire)
