Job Title: Cardiac Short Stay Nurse

Shift / Hours

7:00am - 7:30am/pm.

On Call Requirement

Weekend / Holiday Requirement

Weekends: Night shift is Friday/Saturday. Every other weekend.

Holidays: Rotating Holidays

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate the delivery of nursing care to patients and their families.
  • Attains knowledge and competency reflective of current standards of practice.
  • Interacts and contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues.
  • Integrates ethical provisions in all areas of nursing practice.
  • Integrates evidence-based practice and research findings into nursing practice.
  • Systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.
  • Promotes safety measures to prevent patient and staff injuries.
  • Identifies patients correctly by using two unique ways.
  • Observes, checks and monitors all equipment used to confirm that items are functioning properly.
  • Maintains a safe therapeutic working environment and recognizes need for action in emergency situations.
  • Documentation is thoroughly and timely completed.
  • A Staff Nurse Level II maintains competency reflective of current standards practice, guides and supervises staff in the provision of patient care, and enhances own professional growth and development.
  • Monitor and evaluate patients for a short stay observation up to 16 hours. During stay, a decision is made whether to discharge or admit the patient.

Internal Pay Scale Range

New grad starting rate is $36.00. Rate increases with experience.

Must Haves

  • License: Current IL RN License.
  • Certification: American Heart Association BLS/CPR Certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required.
  • Experience: At least one year of Cardiac Tele experience. Must be proficient in EKG reading and interpreting EKGs and dysrhythmias.
  • Education: ADN.

Preferred

ER nurse is ideal. Critical care experience preferred, but will consider med/tele nurses.

Tell me about the unit

  • Number of Beds: 12 beds.
  • Patient Population: Mixed population in terms of age and mobility. Multi‑cultural and language patients.
  • Common Diagnosis: This is a short stay/decisional unit. Many of the patients on this unit are in the process of discovering a diagnosis. Common rule outs for patients with chest pain, low Hg, waiting stress test/MRI.
  • What is the nurse to patient ratio? 1:6.
  • Average number of admits per day or week: With the concept of a decisional unit, the amount of patients that come and go vary from day to day. There is a high probability of 4‑5 new admissions/discharges each day.
  • What opportunities for career progression and growth exist? Nurses can become charge nurses. We also have the Nursing Professional Advancement Program with 3 advancement levels.
  • Who will this candidate report to? Nurse Manager.
