School Nurse PositionThe purpose of this contract is for School Nurse services at Flandreau Indian School (FIS), a federal bureau operated school under the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Education. FIS is an off-reservation boarding school located in Flandreau, South Dakota, Moody County. The school provides service and support to approximately 100 Native American/Alaska Native High School students from across the nation, representing 48 different tribes.
Students reside at the school in dormitories from mid-August until mid-May of each year with the exception of a winter break from mid-December through the beginning of January.The contractor shall provide qualified personnel, necessary supplies, materials, and equipment needed to coordinate School Nurse services. Essential duties include providing onsite service, administering prescribed medication and treatments for students, coordinating and assisting with vision screenings for students, responding to medical emergencies within the school, communicating medical issues/concerns with parents, school staff, and medical agencies, maintaining health files and daily logs, and collaborating with fellow FIS nurses and counselors in establishing comprehensive mental and physical health.On-site services will be provided before, during, and after school hours, between 7:30 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, during the school year. The school year is mid-August through June 30th.
Schedules are subject to change due to staffing changes, emergencies, holidays, vacations, special events, and unexpected events.
