Position Overview

MO-SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital hires a Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive nursing care in the Intensive Care Units. The RN assesses, directs, and coordinates nursing activities throughout the patient’s hospital stay, working with a patient/caregiver‑driven approach and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessment and reassessment, document findings, and educate patients and families on admission and during hospitalization.
  • Establish, coordinate, and evaluate a nursing plan of care based on assessment data, physician orders, protocols, and evidence‑based practice.
  • Provide and document nursing interventions, including medication administration, IV and parenteral nutrition management, referrals, and patient/family education.
  • Collaborate with health‑team members to coordinate daily care, provide accurate hand‑off reports, and clarify physician orders.
  • Document ongoing evaluation of care effectiveness, adjust plans as necessary, and notify clinical staff of significant changes in patient status.
  • Deliver specialized care to high‑risk patients, including restraint care, pain management strategies, and reporting of abuse/neglect signs.
  • Maintain safety and infection‑control standards, perform safe patient handling, and adhere to hand‑hygiene protocols.
  • Support service excellence by demonstrating courtesy, meeting patient needs, and communicating with respect and professionalism.
  • Lead and participate in performance improvement and evidence‑based practice initiatives, including data collection, goal development, and quality‑indicator maintenance.
  • Provide age‑appropriate care, assess and interpret age‑specific data, and document all relevant supplies and equipment used.
  • Support nursing education, supervise students/new staff, and function as a resource for peers and the health‑care team.

Qualifications & Certification

  • Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Missouri.
  • Minimum one year of RN experience.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Qualification to work as an RN in Illinois, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin is a plus.
  • Valid BLS certification, and continuing education as required by hospital policy.
