Position Overview

Employment Status: Full time | Shift: Weekends Only | Location: 1906 Belleview Ave SE – Roanoke, VA | Requisition Number: R | Unit: 20‑bed Pulmonary Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Job Summary

As a registered nurse in the Magnet‑designated 8 Mountain PCU, you will provide high‑acuity, patient‑centered care for medical patients with a focus on pulmonary and respiratory conditions. You will lead nursing coordination, deliver individualized care, utilize delegation and critical thinking, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in a culturally diverse environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for all ages to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Conduct age‑specific admissions, ongoing assessments, and documentation using EPIC E‑MR.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate interdisciplinary age‑specific plans of care.
  • Revise plans as patient status changes.
  • Accurately administer treatments and medications; document all interventions.
  • Identify and address patient/family education needs in a timely manner.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and record contributions.
  • Advocate for patients, protect rights, and provide psychological/social/cultural support.
  • Apply knowledge of growth and development appropriate to served populations.
  • Perform leadership or educational functions to support evidence‑based care.
  • Implement strategies to reduce length of stay, improve outcomes, and manage resources.
  • Mentor new employees and provide constructive feedback to staff.
  • Contribute to unit, hospital, and system activities; support staff participation in decision‑making.
  • Assist with education activities for the unit/department.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of a professional nursing school from an accredited college or a program approved to sit for the VA licensure exam.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure.
  • Certified in AHA BLS‑HCP; may be required to obtain/maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP based on unit needs.
  • Computer skills required for electronic medical record (EPIC) use.

Compensation

Range: $33.52 – $50.28 per hour. Compensation depends on qualifications, credentials, education, and prior experience and is not inclusive of benefits or pension plans.
