Nurse to patient ratios aim for 1:4 but typically run 1:5, occasionally 1:6. Charge nurses take a full patient assignment on both day and night shifts. Charge nurses have support from a Clinical Assistant who works alongside them. Two to three nurse aides typically assist with patient care. Weekend shifts include working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. Flexibility is required for holiday shifts, but they are mostly covered by permanent staff. Registered Nurses are required to wear navy blue scrubs, including jackets without hoods.
Telemetry technicians are available, but RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips. RNs must be able to titrate specific infusions, including Amiodarone and Heparin. Respiratory Therapy is available in-house 24/7. Clientists and Intensivists are present in-house 24/7. An IV team is also available for all IV starts and management. Pharmacy services operate in-house 24/7. Shifts are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Self-scheduling is allowed as long as unit needs are met. All staff members may be required to float into other departments as needed. Common patient diagnoses include chest pain, heart failure, and arrhythmias. The position requires adherence to attendance policies. Charting will be done using the EPIC system.
