Description:The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame.This role involves providing care to patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial, and human resources within the philosophy of the institution.Key functions include performing all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service.The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided ensures the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.The RN completes an initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards, based on patient and family needs.They implement the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.Modifications to the plan of care are made based upon continuous evaluation.Responsibility for patient and employee safety includes reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.Effective communication with others is essential to resolve issues directly and privately when necessary.The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confers with colleagues to expand knowledge.Identifying their own learning needs is critical, with the initiative to begin appropriate solutions.Fulfilling all requirements of departmental competencies is necessary.The RN monitors patients in the EMU 24/7 for seizure activity.Good communication with patients and families is ensured by utilizing meaningful hourly rounding, bedside shift report, and whiteboards.Collaboration with the critical care team for advanced care patients is a key aspect of the role.The RN works with hospitalists for advanced care patients.
