Description:This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Step Down Unit.The focus is on providing care for patients transitioning from the intensive care unit.Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 during day shifts.Two weekend shifts per month are required.Experience in managing high acuity patients is essential.The unit typically handles complex medical cases, so familiarity with critical care procedures is preferred.Knowledge in the following areas is necessary: care of ventilated patients, cardiac telemetry, and IV insulin protocols.The nurse will need to be proficient in interpreting arterial blood gases and dysrhythmias.Additional skills include administering blood products and managing chest tubes.Floating to lower acuity floors may be required as needed.The nursing team will work alongside interdisciplinary support staff, including respiratory therapists and social services.Strong communication and teamwork skills are critical for success in this role.
