Progressive Care NurseThe Progressive Care Nurse will provide care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients. Patients will be on a medical/surgical unit that does not require transfer to the ICU.
Responsibilities include providing physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural support to patients. Anticipated patient populations include post-op surgical patients, pre and post PCI care, and other conditions such as CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, DVT, PE, and sepsis. Nurses will expect patients in relative stability while recognizing that diagnoses may require skilled assessment and intervention for potential deterioration. Ability to operate advanced medical equipment is required. Care for patients will include managing central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, IVs, and long-term ventilation support. Nurses will collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery. Effective interaction with patients and significant others is essential while maintaining professional nursing standards. The Progressive Care Nurse will provide direct care to patients throughout their hospital stay, including discharge planning.
The role involves directing the activities of RN, LPN, CNA, and other support staff. The Progressive Care Nurse will also complement medical surgical nursing duties when needed. Knowledge and skills required include operation of medical equipment, cardiac telemetry, and EKG interpretation. Advanced nursing principles and procedures are essential to this role.
