The Observation Unit is a unique 16‑bed unit where most patients come from the Emergency Department needing an overnight stay. Our goal is to provide exceptional care while also maintaining an average length of stay of less than 24 hours. Common diagnoses include chest pain, shortness of breath, pre‑procedure care, TIA follow‑up, missed dialysis, and others. We work side by side with the Emergency Department to improve throughput. New hires are paired with experienced nurses to learn the unit’s policies and procedures. The unit promotes teamwork, communication, professional development, and participation in Shared Governance, which supports bedside decision‑making.
