Our Department: We are a fast-paced 10-bed department where patient education is a priority. Our primary purpose is to serve as an observation unit, focusing on the care of orthopedic, renal, cardiac, and stroke patients, along with non-infectious Med/Surg patients. Every day brings a new challenge and a chance to make a real difference.

Job Summary

This position serves to provide productive learning experiences for the new graduate nurse after the acquisition of the Arizona Registered Nurse.

Essential Functions

• Participates with other disciplines in the planning, implementation, evaluation and modification of nursing care and gives direct nursing care.
• Performs nursing procedures following Tiered Nursing Orientation and competency checklists for which competency has been established and signed off. Each skill must have been observed and validated by the nurse preceptor.
• Demonstrates ability to evaluate suggestions and criticisms objectively and, when necessary, undertakes to change behavior or seek further guidance.
• Demonstrates a commitment to quality through participation in continuous improvement activities, offering constructive suggestion for change and improvement in the hospital/unit’s overall operation and efficiency, and sharing information and evaluation effectiveness.
• Demonstrates ability to adapt to change which directly or indirectly impacts job responsibilities.
• Practices listening skills when dealing with concerns, complaints, questions, demonstrating objectivity in emotional situations.

Physical Demands

Exerts up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. The worker is exposed to contact with chemicals and infectious fluids, heavy lifting, constant standing, extensive close work, and extensive computer work.

Required Education and Experience

All Departments:

• Current AZ RN license
• BLS Certification (30 days of employment required)

Department Specific Education and Experience

• Emergency Department: ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC or other trauma course (with approval), ENPC, Professional organization specialty certification (preferred), 1+ years specific unit experience (preferred)
• Dialysis: ACLS, NIHSS, Professional organization specialty certification (preferred), 1+ years specific unit experience (preferred)
• Home Health: Arizona Dept. of Public Safety class 1 fingerprint clearance card, Professional organization specialty certification (preferred), 1+ years specific unit experience (preferred)
• ICU: ACLS, NIHSS, Professional organization specialty certification (preferred), 1+ years specific unit experience (preferred)
• Med/Surg 3, 2, Telemetry: ACLS, NIHSS, Professional organization specialty certification (preferred), 1+ years specific unit experience (preferred)
• OB: ACLS (L&D only), STABLE, AWHONN intermediate/advanced fetal monitoring (L&D only), NRP, Newborn Hearing Screening Certification, Professional organization specialty certification (preferred), 1+ years specific unit experience (preferred)
• OR: ACLS, PALS, Professional organization specialty certification (preferred), 1+ years specific unit experience (preferred)
• POE: ACLS, PALS, Professional organization specialty certification (preferred), 1+ years specific unit experience (preferred)
• ASCS/Preop/PACU: ACLS, PALS, NRP (ASCS Floats Only), Professional organization specialty certification (preferred), 1+ years specific unit experience (preferred)
• IV Therapy, Imaging, Oncology, Radiation Therapy RN, Cath Lab, Senior Behavioral Health: ACLS (where required), NIHSS (where required), Professional organization specialty certification (preferred), 1+ years specific unit experience (preferred)

Certification Guidelines: * Renewal may take up to 30 days after expiration of original certification. ** Renewal may take up to 75 days after expiration of original certification. & Required within 6 months of employment, or at completion of orientation. @ Required within 1 year of employment. % Certification required with 30 days of employment. + Preferred.

OSHA Exposure Category

Involves exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Education

Bachelor's or better in Nursing.
