- Assist the Nursing Director with nursing leadership and oversight of the overall patient care process
- Prepare annual budgets and manage staff and department operations within approved budgetary goals
- Monitor daily expenses, labor costs, productivity, patient revenue, and statistical reports
- Prepare progress and adverse-trend reports and implement corrective actions
- Ensure timely, proactive, and cost-effective scheduling and staffing
- Lead employee retention efforts and monitor unit turnover
- Promote prompt, friendly, patient-centered service and protect patient privacy and dignity
- Conduct daily patient and employee rounds
- Mentor staff toward excellent patient experiences using UPH values and behaviors
- Monitor quality metrics, regulatory standards, compliance, processes, progress, and results
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, quality assurance, safety, and infection control procedures
- Develop and implement procedures, care-delivery models, and techniques to improve patient care
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing practice quality and effectiveness
- Review event reports and trends and support incident prevention through counseling, education, and discipline
- Serve on system and regional teams to improve care processes
- Review documentation for completeness and accuracy
- Collaborate with NPD specialists and/or CNE on evidence-based care
- Monitor technology advancements and address quality related to equipment and technology
- Ensure compliance with TJC, CMS, OSHA, CARF, IDPH, and National Patient Safety Goals
- Facilitate nursing growth and development through professional practice, shared governance, and organizational opportunities
- Support and implement a Just Culture environment focused on safety and preventing injury or harm
Requirements
- Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN)
- Associate's Degree in Nursing or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 1 year
- Knowledge of quality metrics and regulatory standards
- Ability to manage budgets, staffing, scheduling, productivity, and department resources
- Ability to monitor compliance with safety, infection control, and governmental or regulatory requirements
- Ability to assess and evaluate nursing practice and patient-care quality
