RN Labor & Delivery

Job Summary

The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) provides skilled nursing care focused on maternal and fetal well-being during labor and delivery. This role involves monitoring labor progression, assisting with deliveries, managing obstetric emergencies, and delivering postpartum education. The nurse also floats to the Medical-Surgical floor when Labor & Delivery services are not available, ensuring continuity of high-quality patient care. Strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and emotional support to patients and families are essential. A current Montana RN license and experience in both Labor & Delivery and Med Surg are required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor maternal and fetal well-being throughout labor and delivery.
• Manage labor progression and assist with deliveries.
• Respond promptly and effectively to obstetric emergencies.
• Administer medications and perform cervical exams within scope of practice.
• Interpret fetal monitoring strips and prepare patients for operative deliveries.
• Provide postpartum education and emotional support to patients and families.
• Float to the Medical-Surgical floor when Labor & Delivery services are closed, delivering patient care as needed.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Required Skills & Certifications

• Current Montana Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Experience in Labor & Delivery nursing.
• Experience in Medical-Surgical nursing.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.Strong clinical judgment and effective communication skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications

• Additional certifications related to obstetrics or maternal-newborn nursing.
• Experience with operative deliveries and advanced fetal monitoring techniques.

Special Considerations

• Must be willing and able to float between Labor & Delivery and Medical-Surgical units as needed.
• Ability to respond quickly to obstetric emergencies and provide emotional support during critical moments.

Scheduling

• Day shift schedule primarily focused on Labor & Delivery.
• Shift assignments may vary based on unit needs, including Medical-Surgical floor coverage.
