Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery (L&D)

Role Summary

Empower growing families in a high-autonomy, specialized maternal-child health unit. As an L&D RN, you will be the clinical backbone of a 19-bed unit (7 L&D, 2 Triage, 10 Postpartum) that facilitates approximately 830 births per year. This role is designed for a highly proficient clinician who thrives on independence; since providers are not in-house, your expert assessment skills and ability to manage OB emergencies are critical. From managing high-risk pre-eclampsia cases to circulating in C-sections, you will provide comprehensive care from triage through couplet care, supported by 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy services.

Key Duties:

Intrapartum Excellence: Manage 1–3 births per day, providing 1:2 ratio care for laboring patients, including high-risk and pre-eclampsia management.

Fetal Monitoring Mastery: Maintain expert-level proficiency in fetal monitoring, accurately interpreting strips and taking immediate, decisive action for fetal distress.

Emergency Response: Act as a first responder for OB emergencies, utilizing advanced assessment skills to stabilize patients until the physician arrives.

Surgical Support: Function as a key member of the surgical team, providing essential nursing care and circulation for C-section procedures.

Couplet Care & Postpartum: Seamlessly transition between Labor & Delivery and Postpartum care, supporting the bonding and recovery of mother and baby.

Triage & Assessment: Manage the 2-bed triage area, performing initial evaluations and determining the appropriate level of care.

Multidisciplinary Support: Collaborate with 24/7 on-unit Respiratory Therapists, OB Scrub Techs, and Health Unit Coordinators.

Required Qualifications

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of professional Labor & Delivery experience; C-section experience is mandatory.

Licensure: Current Registered Nurse License.

Certifications: Must hold current ACLS, BLS, and NRP certifications.

Specialized Training: Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification required.

Clinical Skills: Strong background in high-risk OB care and emergency stabilization.

Desired Qualifications

Versatility: Proven ability to function effectively in both L&D and couplet care settings.

Critical Thinking: Advanced assessment skills with the ability to work independently in a setting without in-house OB/Neonatologists.

Adaptability: Willingness to float to other hospital units (typically MedSurg or ED) if census allows and expertise is needed.
