Job Summary
The ICU Nurse is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU). This role involves continuous monitoring, assessment, and intervention to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The nurse will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, administer medications, and utilize advanced clinical skills in a fast-paced environment. An active California RN license along with BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications are required.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to patients in ICU and CCU settings.
- Monitor vital signs and patient status continuously, responding promptly to changes.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges within the unit.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and clinical observations.
- Occasionally float to other units to cover breaks and assist as needed.
- Ensure compliance with infection control and safety protocols.
Required Skills & Certifications
- Active Registered Nurse license in California.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Proof of negative tuberculosis (TB) screen within 12 months prior to contract start.
- Minimum of 3 years of critical care nursing experience preferred.

- Experience in ICU/CCU nursing environments.
- Strong interdisciplinary team collaboration skills.
- Excellent communication and critical thinking abilities.
Special Considerations
- May be required to float occasionally to cover breaks and assist other units.
- Must comply with hospital infection control policies and safety standards.
- Housing options are available within a 20-mile radius of Arcata, CA.
Scheduling
- Day shift position.
- 36 hours guaranteed per week.
