Responsibilities

The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle, using nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. The role requires adherence to organizational policies and procedures, demonstrates professional growth and accountability, and maintains standards of practice. The staff nurse coordinates patient care activities of all assigned staff to ensure quality nursing care.

Education

  • Graduate from a nursing program – Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree – Preferred

Work Experience

  • No experience required – New graduates of a nursing program eligible
  • Nursing experience in a hospital setting – Preferred
  • 1 year in a hospital setting for PRN positions – Required

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN – Registered Nurse – Georgia State Licensure and/or NLC/eNCL Multistate Licensure; Current license in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNCL Multistate License – Required
  • BCLS – Basic Life Support – Required

Additional Licenses and Certifications

  • Advanced certification in field of specialty, if applicable (see addendum)

Addendum

  • Cardiac Tele: ACLS certification required within 180 days of start date
  • Critical Care: ACLS certification required within 180 days of start date
  • Dialysis: CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) preferred
  • Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS certification required within 180 days of start date. Experienced ED nurses have 6 months to obtain the PALS certification.
  • Infusion/Oncology: Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification required upon hire
  • Pediatrics: PALS certification required at Piedmont Columbus Hospital or PEARS/PALS certification required at Piedmont Athens Hospital within 180 days of start date
  • Surgical Services: Pre‑Op/PACU/ENDO/CSU ACLS; PALS if the unit provides care to pediatric patients; BLS required within 180 days of start date
  • Women's Services: Labor and Delivery ACLS certification required within 6 months of start date; NRP and AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program required within 12 months; NICU, NRP, NAT, and nursery certifications required within 180 days of start date
