Job Title: RN CVICU (Critical Care)

Pay: $57 per hour

Shift: 7a – 7p

Location: Pikeville, KY

Schedule: 10 Weeks

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care to assigned patients utilizing the nursing process within established standards and practices.
  • Direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, consult with specialists, adjust nursing care processes to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Perform a head‑to‑toe assessment on all patients and re‑assessments as per policy.
  • Provide individualized, age‑specific care supporting homeostatic regulation, hemodynamic monitoring, and physiological functioning.
  • Maintain accurate, continuous nursing documentation, including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses, and assessment of changes.
  • Treat patients and families with respect and dignity, maintain confidentiality, identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs, and function as a patient advocate.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the lifespan and ability to provide appropriate age care.
  • Interact professionally with patients and families, involve them in individualized care plans, review and update plans daily.
  • Formulate a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluate effectiveness.
  • Supervise other healthcare staff involved in patient care, allocate and monitor work.
  • Assist physicians with procedures in the department.
  • Respond promptly to changes in workload to achieve optimal productivity.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of performance improvement activities to improve patient outcomes and processes.
  • Act as a preceptor for new employees.
  • Enhance professional growth through educational programs, literature, meetings, workshops.
  • Maintain operation of patient care equipment, ensure adequate supplies, aid cost containment.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and ability to function under stressful situations.
  • Meet all departmental‑specific competencies.
  • Perform housekeeping duties, transportation of patients, adhere to dress code, infection control, safety, personnel guidelines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Serve as team leader and role model for other staff members.

Required Skills

  • Care of critically ill patients
  • Airway management (basic and advanced)
  • Post‑operative vascular surgery care / recovery
  • Gastrointestinal care
  • Pulmonary / respiratory care
  • Skin assessment / care
  • Central venous catheter care and maintenance
  • Assist with specialized procedures
  • Use specialized equipment in the care of critically ill patients
  • Manage Code Blue in the May Tower / Pediatrics
  • Continuous renal replacement therapy
  • Manage Code Blue for inpatient areas
  • Attend all mandatory education and in‑services

Qualifications

  • ACLS training required within 90 days (must be completed before completion of orientation)
  • NIH Stroke Scale within 90 days of hire or transfer (must be completed before completion of orientation)
  • EKG
  • FIT Test
  • RN license
  • 5 years of experience in critical care nursing
  • Associate’s degree in nursing required; bachelor’s degree preferred
